Philadelphia Phillies principal owner John S. Middleton recently announced plans for Citizens Bank Park to undergo a new, estimated $600 million renovation project, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
According to Middleton, the goal with the renovations are meant to improve the fan experience, player facilities, and the clubhouse.
Citizens Bank Park has been the home of the Phillies since opening in April 2004. The team’s lease runs through 2041.
As they prepare to undergo the new renovations, Middleton said Phillies officials have been touring stadiums nationwide to see their evolution over the past two decades.
“We’re taking the best ideas and building them into our plan,” he added.
Seeing as how Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago are both over 100 years old, but have survived due to meeting the demands of new customers, Middleton believes Citizens Bank Park could also continue to operate well for several more decades.
The Phillies have also recently renovated the Cadillac Hall of Fame Club and expanded the New Era Phillies Team Store, in the meantime.
While the timeline and specific details of the larger renovation project are still in the planning stage, it will be a multiyear project.
