Following last October’s deadly homecoming shooting, Lincoln University has implemented new campus event safety measures, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Outdoor events will no longer be permitted after dusk, and all activities will be in controlled environments where every guest can be screened, Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee said.
The university will also work with Chester County Emergency Management, Pennsylvania State Police, and Lower Oxford Township to implement a zone security plan. The upcoming Spring Fling will further be limited to one registered guest per student.
Lincoln has faced pressure from both nearby residents and Lower Oxford Township to implement stronger safety measures since the Oct. 25, 2025 shooting that left one person dead and six others wounded.
With thousands of people in attendance, emergency personnel had to rely on all-terrain vehicles to move patients on stretchers because ambulances could not reach the campus due to the large number of cars parked around the venue.
“We’ve … cultivated those relationships that were sorely needed in this area so that we can do what we need to do and protect our students and keep the community itself happy about what we’re doing,” said Partee.
