Plans Underway to Join Chester Valley and Schuylkill River Trails

Under a 5 to 10-year plan, unlinked segments of the Chester Valley Trail will be joined to streamline the trail for bikers and pedestrians.

Long-term plans are underway to join the Schuylkill River and Chester Valley Trails in a multi-year project, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

The King of Prussia Business Improvement District (KOBID) is leading the project’s fundraising and trail design. Currently, the plan is to bridge gaps between seven currently separated trail segments to streamline both trails for pedestrians and bikers.

Bikers, walkers, and runners must currently travel over difficult highways and congested roads to travel between trail segments. With the seven new links throughout Chester County into King of Prussia, trail users will be able to safely cross and enjoy a longer trail.

One link will cover Devon Park Drive to join the Schuylkill trail with the Chester Valley Trail.

KOPBID CEO Eric Goldstein spoke about the more complex parts of the plan, which include building cycling bridges over Route 422 and U.S. 202 ramps. Goldstein shared that the plan is estimated to take up to ten years and $8 million to complete.

As far as funding, the group recently received a grant of $956,275 from community partners. Looking to the future, KOPBID director of capital projects Christopher Basler shared that the team is excited to pursue elected officials and state funding to further make the project a reality.
