Successful Spring City Intern Recognized for Move into Full-Time at Phoenixville Hospital

Spring City's Jack Edwards recently moved to a permanent guest services position at Phoenixville Hospital after a successful internship.

Resident Jack Edwards is moving to a permanent role at Phoenixville Hospital after acing a one-year internship, writes Susan Shelly for The Daily Local News.

Edwards was recently hired as a full-time guest services attendant at Tower Health’s Phoenixville Hospital. He manages the front desk to help greet guests and guide visitors where they need to go.

The full-time position comes after he completed a year-long internship at the hospital. The internship was managed by Project SEARCH, program that pairs high schoolers with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a partnering organization for work experience.

A native of Spring City, Edwards was a senior at Owen J. Roberts High School when he was tapped for a SEARCH internship. He deferred his graduation so that he could finish his internship before completing high school.

In his internship rotations, he worked in three different hospital departments in varying roles to find the perfect fit.

Phoenixville Hospital has hired five Project SEARCH interns to date, now including Edwards. The experiences ultimately helped Edwards grow his confidence while gaining applicable work experience.

According to his coworkers, he is already excelling in the full-time position. About his important role as a hospital worker, Edwards said, “Most people who come into the hospital don’t really want to be here…If I can put a smile on their face, then I know I’m doing a good job.”
