The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners introduced an ordinance last week to use eminent domain to seize 17 acres from the Valley Forge Military Academy Foundation, believing the land has been put up for sale and could be sold to developers.
The Foundation oversees the Valley Forge Military Academy and Valley Forge Military College property in Wayne, where the 17 acres are located.
Phil Rosenzweig, an attorney representing the Academy Foundation, said the 17 acres at the property is not for sale, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News, as printed in the Daily Times.
“I need to start by correcting a material misimpression that you all seem to be operating under that this land is for sale,” Rosenzweig told the board. “That is not a correct statement.
There was an offer from Rockwell Development for the land, but the foundation has not pursued the offer as it deals with the closing of Valley Forge Military Academy, he said.
Radnor Township officials are set to meet with Foundation representatives Feb. 20 to talk about the property.
Commissioner Jack Larkin asked that the final adoption of the eminent domain ordinance be put off until March, after the meeting with Valley Forge.
