CCOIC Joins Henderson High School’s Black Student Union to Support the Alice Thomas Scholarship Banquet on Feb. 28

Panelists gather after the Feb. 17 Black History Month discussion at Henderson High School, reflecting the shared leadership and collective impact of the women who participated.

Chester County OIC (CCOIC) continues its long tradition of community leadership and empowerment by supporting the Henderson High School Black Student Unit (BSU) Alice Thomas Scholarship Banquet.

Set for Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 AM at Henderson High School, this meaningful event celebrates a century of Black history built on legacy and driven by purpose.

Earlier this month, CCOIC President and CEO Javonna Wylie participated in a Black History Month panel discussion at Henderson High School alongside four other accomplished Black women from the Chester County area.

The panel centered on their lived experiences — from their upbringing and early education in local school districts through college and their professional journeys. The conversation explored themes of race, ethnicity, gender, academic growth, professional achievement, challenges faced, and the mentors and lessons that shaped their paths. The panel was orchestrated by Special Education teacher and Black Student Union Advisor Shanelle Dorsey, a Downingtown native whose leadership continues to create powerful spaces for dialogue, representation, and student empowerment.

CCOIC is proud to support the Henderson BSU as they honor student achievement and raise funds for the Alice Thomas Scholarship at the upcoming Feb. 28 banquet. Rooted in the belief that investing in youth is essential to building tomorrow’s workforce, CCOIC remains committed to expanding opportunity for young people across Chester County.

The scholarship banquet is both a celebration of student success and a meaningful fundraiser, with proceeds directly benefiting the Henderson BSU Scholarship Fund. Community members and supporters are encouraged to attend, purchase tickets, or place an advertisement in the event program to help empower students in their pursuit of higher education and personal goals.

With a longstanding history of helping residents build skills and prepare for the workforce, CCOIC recognizes this event as a natural extension of its mission — investing in education and championing the potential of future leaders.
