The Kennett Express, a fan-favorite attraction at Kennett’s annual Tinsel on the Town, attracted a record-breaking volume of guests for another festive celebration, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News.
The beloved train ride took visitors across Kennett Square’s downtown State Street at the borough’s annual holiday celebration last week. Hundreds of riders waited in line, with the train attracting triple the number of festival visitors compared to last year.
One of the county’s most beloved events, Tinsel on the Town is a free-to-attend celebration featuring festive street vendors, food trucks, gift shopping and more throughout downtown Kennett Square. Visitors also enjoyed a Santa meet and greet, festive beverages, and a Christmas tree donated by Longwood Gardens.
Fourth generation Kennett resident Maura Langley arrived early with her son to avoid the long lines for the Kennett Express. Langley described the train ride as her favorite part of the festival.
The train also attracted plenty of newcomers to the yearly Kennett celebration. Resident Julia McCrae recently moved to New London from Delaware County, and enjoyed the holiday lights with her son Connor.
The holiday excitement led festival organizers to get a second train for this year’s event. About this year’s massive success, Kennett Collaborative executive director Daniel Embree said, “The holiday season in Kennett Square reminds us what a generous and joyful community this is.”
