Local Mother Honors Her Daughter’s Legacy Through Statewide Awareness Month

After her daughter’s tragic passing from carbon manoxide poisoning, local mother Donna Imbierowicz has worked tirelessly to spread awareness.

Chester County advocate Donna Imbierowicz has spent over a decade working tirelessly to honor her daughter’s legacy, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News.

Imbierowicz’ daughter Carly Imbierowicz tragically passed from carbon monoxide poisoning during a car ride home in 2014. A malfunctioning exhaust system caused sixteen-year-old Carly and driver Daulton Pointek to sadly pass from the deadly leak.

In the eleven years since the tragedy, Donna has led countless initiatives regarding carbon monoxide awareness and poisoning prevention.

Carbon monoxide poisoning accounts for an estimated 100,000 emergency department visits and 400 deaths annually in the U.S. Thanks to Donna Imbierowicz and the Carly Imbierowicz Foundation, effective education and prevention systems help fight this risk.

Through the foundation, which launched in 2016, Donna has donated over 1,500 carbon monoxide detectors to families throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. Donna also worked with former state senator Andy Dinniman to include carbon monoxide information in the Pennsylvania Driver’s Manual.

Most recently, Donna worked with elected officials to officially designate November as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. State Senator Carolyn Comitta met with the Imbierowicz family in Harrisburg this November to formally share the awareness month proclamation.

About Donna Imbierowicz and the family’s years of advocacy, Comitta said, “We thank them for having the courage to share their family’s story and carrying on Carly’s memory to raise awareness, save lives, and keep our children and families safe.”
