Wayne Art Center Cultivates Community Joy Through Education

The Wayne Art Center boasts a wide range of classes where patrons of all ages can gain a new skill while connecting with others.

The Wayne Art Center is one of many local centers creating community connections through fine art, writes Lily Henderson for Main Line Today.

Art classes serve as a popular way for residents of all ages to meet new people and gain a new skill. For patrons of the Wayne Art Center, this means choosing from a variety of workshops to boost personal enrichment through a fun social activity.

The center boasts a wide selection of classes from a variety of mediums. Classes cover drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and jewelry making. Additional classes also include stained glass and mosaic.

Executive director Nancy Campbell shared that the center’s teaching artists share their skill through accessible, communicative lessons.

But the center’s reputation goes beyond Chester County. Participants hail from all over the country, including students from Chicago, Vermont, and North Carolina.

Nearby Main Line Art Center’s co-executive director Lisa Getz shared that art classes foster improved emotional wellbeing. Getz said, “People realized during the shutdown that they want creativity and beauty in their lives, but they also crave community and a sense of belonging.”

The Wayne center boasts dozens of classes ranging from single-day to twelve-week courses. To enroll, participants can register online, and yearly members receive a discounted workshop rate.
