Local parents and families have a unique way to preserve their children’s homemade artwork thanks to Pop Goes the Doodle, writes Anne E. Hill for Main Line Today.
The Wayne business, owned and operated by artist Lauren Proud, transforms existing art pieces into a stunning pop art collage. Proud takes children’s sketches, paintings or simple doodles and combines them into a keepsake piece of fine art.
Proud got the idea for the business when sifting through her children’s own artwork in storage bins. She didn’t want to trash such sentimental items or put each one on display. Creating a cohesive collage was the perfect solution.
Now, Proud does the same for the local community with Pop Goes The Doodle.
Customers can submit almost any piece of their child’s art, even small scribbles. After a discussion with the client about color palettes and a final vision for the collage, Proud handmakes each piece in her Wayne home.
The result is a one-of-a-kind collage that’s completely new while preserving the child’s original artwork. Customers receive the final product framed and ready to hang.
In developing this unique use of her artistic skill, Proud connects with clients in a whole new way. About the experience so far, Proud said, “I find now that I’m creating artwork that truly resonates with the owner in a way that none of my other paintings could resonate.”
