Philadelphia Restaurants Honored As Michelin Comes to City for Northeast Cities Ceremony

Three Philadelphia restaurants received a Michelin star, while more than a dozen more were recognized during the Northeast Cities ceremony.

Philadelphia served as the host city of the first-ever edition of the Michelin Guide Northeast Cities ceremony on Tuesday, November 18.

With many of the city’s finest culinary professionals in attendance, Philadelphia was one of five cities represented along with New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., and Chicago.

A number of Philadelphia chefs and restaurants received honors during the ceremony.

The first honor went to Pietramala and Chef Ian Graye, who was honored with the Green Star Award.

This honor goes to a restaurant that leads the way in sustainability efforts.

Pietramala offers a small menu of plates based on quality and organic ingredients grown in Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic.

Meanwhile, three Philadelphia restaurants received a coveted Michelin Star.

They are Her Place Supper Club, Friday Saturday Sunday, and Provenance.

Her Place Supper Club, led by Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp, is a French restaurant in Center City. Friday Saturday Sunday is led by Chad and Hanna Williams, and offers American cuisine. Provenance, a relative newcomer to Philly’s dining scene, is led by Nicholas Bazik and also offers French-inspired dishes.

Beyond the prestigious Michelin star, a number of Philadelphia restaurants received a Bib Gourmand. This honor recognizes restaurants that offer excellent quality food at a reasonable price.

The Philly restaurants to receive the honor were:

  • Angelo’s
  • Del Rossi’s
  • Dalessandro’s
  • Dizengoff
  • El Chingon
  • Fiorella
  • Famous 4th Street Delicatessen
  • Pizzeria Beddia
  • Royal Sushi & Izakaya
  • Sally

The celebration was a culmination of a months-long process for Michelin, after it was announced earlier this year that Philadelphia would be included in its famed guide for the first time.

During the ceremony, Michelin also recommended a number of Philadelphia restaurants. The full list was: Ambra, Forsythia, Hiroki, High Street, Honeysuckle, Illata, Kalaya, Laser Wolf, Laurel, Little Water, Mish Mish, My Loup, River Twice, Pietramala, Roxanne, Southwark, Suraya, Vedge, Vernick Food & Drink, Vetri Cucina, and Zahav.

With Philadelphia now officially part of the Michelin family, the local dining scene is sure to gain an even bigger spotlight.
