Dick Vermeil, East Fallowfield Township resident and legendary former head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, is impressed by the Birds’ season so far, writes Bob Brookover for Lehigh Valley Live.
Vermeil praised the players, management, and current head coach Nick Sirianni for the team’s recent success. The former coach shared that the strong ownership paves the way for a cohesive team and strong coaching.
Sirianni recently passed Vermeil on the franchise’s all-time coaching list after winning his fifty-fifth regular season game this past Monday. About Sirianni, Vermeil said, “I think he does a great job with communicating with his coaches and with his players. They understand his goals and his structure with the way he runs things. I think they respect him and trust him, and that’s very, very important.”
Vermeil also named quarterback Jalen Hurts as a standout, describing Hurts as having “no limitations.”
Dick Vermeil coached the Eagles from 1976 though 1982. His tenure included the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 1981, the ring for which he still proudly wears.
Since retiring, Vermeil was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022. More recently, the Salvation Army Trenton Corps honored Vermeil as this year’s Community Partner of the Year.
He will receive the award and celebrate the much-deserved honor at the corps’ annual Christmas Gala on Nov. 21.
