Fates of Crozer-Chester Center, Springfield Hospital Still Uncertain

Tax agreements are still pending for Crozer-Health Medical Center Springfield Hospital, with more information requested about plans for Springfield Hospital.

Some progress regarding the sale of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland has been made, but Springfield Hospital plans have stalled, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

To close the sale on both hospitals, local taxing authorities have to agree on a stipulation to set the assessments for both properties at the transaction prices of $10 million for Crozer-Chester and $3 million for Springfield.

Upland Borough is working on a property tax agreement that will likely favor the stipulation, according to Borough Council President Christine Peterson.

If the Chester Upland School District also agrees to the stipulation, then Crozer-Chester Medical Center can be acquired by Chariot Allaire Partners LLC for $10 million.

A tax agreement assessing Springfield Hospital at the $3 million purchase price is not happening at the moment.

“The township has no interest in agreeing to a tax deal without having a better understanding of the buyer’s intended use of the site and whether it aligns with the township’s comprehensive plan,” Springfield Township spokesperson Pete Peterson said in an email.

The Springfield School Board would also have to agree to a tax settlement, but has not voted yet because of outstanding tax appeals on the Springfield Hospital property.
