Crozer-Chester and Springfield Hospital Properties to be Auctioned

Springfield Hospital and Crozer Chester Medical Center are being put up for auction.

Bankruptcy auctions are coming up for Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Springfield Hospital, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

This follows the recent sale of Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park to local private investors and the sale of Delaware County Memorial Hospital to Upper Darby School District.

Bids on the properties are due Oct. 7, with the auction slated for Oct. 10.

The auction of the Prospect Medical Holdings Inc. properties is slated for Oct. 10 if there are enough qualified bidders.

Winning bidders will have to contend with uncertainties over owed property taxes.

Bidders are likely to be real estate investors who will then look for medical tenants to occupy the hospitals. A similar process is  happening now with Taylor Hospital as local investors interview regional nonprofit health care providers to run the hospital.

Two medical office buildings and a sports club on the Springfield Hospital site are owned by Ventas, a large real estate investment trust. The club is leased to the YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

A Springfield lawsuit accuses Prospect of failing to maintain the hospital and the parking garage, noting potential structural failure of stairwells in the garage.
