Eagleview Educator and Keynote Speaker Christine Miles Talks Solving Education’s Listening Crisis

Christine Miles, an Eagleview educator, author, and keynote speaker, talks about the often-invisible crisis of listening in education.

Christine Miles, an educator, author, and keynote speaker from Eagleview, has made it her mission to address the crisis of listening in education, writes Nupur Bagoria for the Tech Magazine

Miles created The Listening Path, a system teaching listening as a foundational skill. She uses evidence-based tools and methods that can help teachers and students develop listening skills critical for academic success and effective communication.

“Listening is a true 21st-century skill, central to what education strives to accomplish,” said Miles. “It’s at the core of the ‘4 C’s’ that drive student success: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Yet listening is rarely taught with intention.”

She added that less than two percent of people have been formally taught to listen, while 96 percent believe they are good listeners. Miles has been working for years to bridge this critical gap and establish a listening culture in the classroom.

“The most effective strategies for building a listening culture in schools start with making listening a visible and intentional part of everyday life,” she said. “In my experience, classrooms thrive when listening isn’t treated as a background expectation, but rather is woven into the core curriculum and practiced daily.”
