The future of West Chester University’s College Arms Apartments remains uncertain as the university continues to develop new housing plans, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
A current plan to maximize on-campus housing proposes demolishing the College Arms building to build a new 420-bed complex. However, residents and several borough council members opposed the plan at a recent meeting.
The prospective project comes as a part of a larger ten-year plan recently proposed by the university for long-term university growth.
The College Arms Apartments, located at 721 S High Street, currently houses ninety-seven beds. Repair costs and ongoing structural issues make the building difficult to maintain.
The new plan would introduce a townhome-style complex that would replace College Arms and nearby Saxby’s. The complex would feature new student housing as well as a welcome center and both retail and administration space.
