After Closing All Locations, Including West Chester and Exton, Iron Hill Officially Files for Bankruptcy

After closing all its locations, including West Chester and Exton, and after nearly three decades in business, Iron Hill files for bankruptcy.

After closing all its locations last month, including West Chester and Exton, and after nearly three decades in business, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant has officially filed for bankruptcy, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer

The company filed under Chapter 7, allowing the chain to liquidate. This is different from Chapter 11, which permits a company to reorganize and continue operations.

According to documents filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey, Iron Hill owes creditors over $20 million and only has around $125,000 on hand.

Founded in Newark in 1996, the company expanded in recent years with locations in South Carolina and Georgia. It had also begun canning its beers for sale and was planning to open another location on Temple University’s campus.

These moves, however, did not pay off, as shown in bankruptcy documents. Iron Hill’s corporate entity recorded gross revenue of about $242,000 since Jan. 1, 2025, compared with over $25 million from the restaurants.

Meanwhile, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office is currently monitoring complaints from customers who purchased Iron Hill gift cards that can no longer be used. However, some regional restaurant groups like Stove & Co. are offering deals.
