At Home Group, which owns the Promenade at Granite Run At Home store in Media, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, writes Alexa Reed for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
It is one of 260 stores across 40 states. The retail chain, based in Dallas, sells home furniture and décor. It has been impacted by tariffs and a “rapidly evolving trade environment,” according to CEO Brad Weston.
A refinancing deal between At Home and its lenders will eliminate $2 billion in debt, with lenders providing $200 million of capital infusion.
The restructuring includes closing 26 stores by the end of September, including locations in Pittsburgh and Princeton, New Jersey, “with the potential to close additional underperforming stores in the future.”
The lenders will become the new owners of the company once the restructuring is approved by the Delaware bankruptcy court.
“The steps we are taking today to fully de-lever our balance sheet will improve our ability to compete in the marketplace in the face of continued volatility and increase the resilience of our business for the long term,” Weston said in a statement.
