Local restaurant 9 Prime brings a truly elevated culinary experience home to Chester County, writes Ed Williams for Main Line Today.
The West Chester steakhouse offers some of the region’s best high-end dining with delicious menu items and chic interiors. While the top-tier steaks may have earned the spot its title, 9 Prime also offers seafood, pasta, pork and chicken entrees, as well as a raw bar.
Staff turnover made for an originally challenging start in 2023. However, since its official opening in February 2024, the space has become one of the borough’s most sophisticated dining spots.
The change comes thanks to executive chef and general manager Jacob Altemus, who infuses 9 Prime with his experience working in several high-end restaurants in Philadelphia.
Owner John O’Connell renovated what was previously the First National Bank building, a structure first built in 1863. In its transformation, the space maintains a luxurious interior complete with mid-century furnishings. Decor includes chandeliers, a marble bar, and the original gold safety deposit boxes for a historic touch.
The space also includes two private dining rooms in the historic bank vaults.
As for the steak menu, the restaurant boasts a delicious filet mignon, dry-aged Kansas City strip, Delmonico, Japanese wagyu, ribeye. Steak additions include shrimp, scallops, crab, and lobster tail.
In addition to the steak menu, 9 Prime entrées also include a whole branzino, chicken Milanese, and steak frites. As for dessert, the menu includes blood orange tiramisu, peanut butter mousse, Baked Alaska, and gelato from the nearby Gemelli Gelato.
