Malvern Preparatory School’s football team is gearing up for yet another Inter-Academic League championship win, writes Nate Heckenberger for The Daily Local News.
The team dominated the Inter-Academic Athletic League (“Inter-Ac”) for the last two seasons. Despite turnover in players after graduation, the team shows no signs of slowing down for this year’s championship.
Head coach David Gueriera shared that the pressure of previous wins helps the team gain momentum for the upcoming season. Gueriera said, “We always talk about accelerating, going faster, and I think this group has bought into that.”
The team’s successful players remain ready for this year’s Inter-Ac while also boasting early university acceptances to play collegiate football. Senior Jackson Ford was recruited by Penn State to play defensive end, and sophomore George Parkinson is already a four-star recruit.
The Inter-Academic League traces back to 1887, when a select group of private Pennsylvania schools joined to promote athletics through a variety of sports. Now, the league offers boys’ and girls’ categories across nine participating schools, including Malvern Prep.
The Malvern Prep Friars’ regular season will begin in September. The Inter-Ac begins on Oct. 11, when the team will face off against Germantown Academy as they pursue their third victory.
