Josh and Sandee Greenberg, parents of beloved teacher Ellen Greenberg who died after being stabbed 20 times, are still seeking the truth with help from Lamb McErlane, a law firm based in West Chester, writes KC Baker for People.
Ellen was found dead in the apartment she shared with her fiancé, Sam Goldberg, in January 2011.
Dr. Marlon Osbourne, the medical examiner at the time, initially ruled the death a homicide due to stab wounds to Ellen Greenberg’s neck and spine, and the gash on her head.
However, to her parents’ shock, the ruling was later changed to suicide following a meeting with the Philadelphia Police Department.
With no criminal investigation, Ellen’s parents have spent 14 years searching for answers. They filed lawsuits in 2019 against the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office and Dr. Marlon Osbourne. Again in 2022, they filed against the city, former Chief Medical Examiner Sam Gulino, and others, led by their attorney Joe Podraza of Lamb McErlane.
The lawsuits ended with city officials agreeing to reevaluate Ellen’s manner of death. On Jan. 31, Osbourne signed a sworn statement saying her death should be classified as “something other than suicide,” a win for Podraza and the Greenbergs.
The couple are still waiting for the city to act on their part of the deal.
