The abrupt closure of the Schoolhouse of Flourtown in Springfield Township, set for August, has left local parents scrambling for day care solutions, write Deanna Durante and Emily Rose Grassi for NBC10 Philadelphia.
The day care scheduled to close is part of a larger human services campus that will cease operations next month after four decades of service. The company operating the campus stated it has no choice but to close due to the significant financial losses across all operations.
Many parents and teachers are struggling to cope with the loss, shedding many tears since the announcement of the closure.
“We are hoping to make some noise over this,” said parent Angela Bound. “We are hoping for a miracle.”
Two years ago, Public Health Management Corporation took over Carson Valley Children’s Aid and stated that operating on the 75-acre site is a financial burden, leading to the decision to close all programs.
Programs impacted by the decision include community homes, supervised independent living, truancy, rapid service response initiative, integrated case management, and The Schoolhouse.
“You guys are literally throwing babies away with the bath water,” said parent Jessica Patkus. “Literally babies that need care.”
