Nature preserves and local parks across Chester County make for some of the best picnic spots in the region, writes staff for County Lines Magazine.
Here are four locations across the county with scenic views perfect for a summer day outdoors.
Everhart Park—West Chester. The second oldest park in the West Chester borough, Everhart Park features a fountain, gazebo, basketball court, and playground, as well as a historic bridge. The sprawling park offers both picnic tables and benches for seating, and plenty of open space for picnic blankets.
Marsh Creek State Park—Downingtown. With over 150 picnic tables and charcoal grills available throughout the park, Marsh Creek offers scenic waterfront picnic spots. Visitors can rent boats, kayaks, and paddleboards for a day on the water, while hiking trails and fishing spots ensure there are fun activities available for all ages.
Hibernia County Park—Coatesville. Hibernia County Park offers both single-day and overnight outdoor opportunities with campgrounds for both trailers and tents. Visitors can explore the historic Hibernia Mansion and explore eight different hiking trails. A children’s pond and multiple playgrounds make the space a top destination for adults and children alike.
Picnic Special—West Chester Railroad. On this unique Sunday-only train ride, visitors can bring a picnic to enjoy when the train arrives at the Glen Mills station. The station offers historic architecture and scenic views perfect for an outdoor bite before the train returns to West Chester.
