Kennett Square native and Olympic rowing champion Justin Best will speak at Drexel University’s school-wide graduation ceremony, writes Ava Buckingham for The Triangle.
A 2019 Drexel graduate, Best will deliver the commencement speech at the university-wide graduation ceremony at Citizens Bank Park.
During his time on the Drexel rowing team, Best led the team to numerous championship titles.
Best helped the Dragons achieve their sixth consecutive title at the David Vail Regatta. He also led the varsity eight team to place 21st overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships.
An alumnus of Unionville High School, Best later competed at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
In a close race with New Zealand, Best led the team to a gold medal in the 2,000-meter men’s four final at the Paris games last summer. The 2024 team’s medal was the first gold won by the United States in the category since 1960.
Additionally, he is the first Drexel University alumnus in the school’s history to win gold at any Olympic Games.
As an accomplished rower and local success story, Best will further inspire the Drexel Class of 2025 when he serves as commencement speaker on June 12.
