Wayne Dentist Joins the Mountaineering Elites After Conquering the Seven Summits

Dr. Bruce Terry has climbed all Seven Summits. Here he is pictured on Mount Everest.

Wayne-based mountaineering dentist Bruce Terry is one of the few members of the prestigious Seven Summits climbing club, after having successfully conquered all seven peaks, writes Ben Silver for the Main Line Today

Terry caught the climbing bug when his wife gifted him a trip to climb Mount Rainier for his birthday years ago. He enjoyed the six-day journey up the 14,410-foot Washington State peak so much that he decided to take on the Seven Summits, a challenge only completed by about 500 people worldwide.

His next climb was Tanzania’s 19,341-foot Mount Kilimanjaro, which he summited in seven days.

In 2010, he tackled Russia’s 18,510-foot Mount Elbrus, then Argentina’s 22,838-foot Aconcagua two years later.

In 2014, he took on the 20,310-foot arctic behemoth Denali, where a sudden storm left his group stuck for 24 hours. He reached Australasia’s 16,024-foot Carstensz Pyramid the following year, then Antarctica’s 16,050-foot Vinson Massif in 2016.

He saved the most difficult for last and scaled the tallest mountain in the world: the 29,032-foot Mount Everest, at age 58.

“You learn to figure out how to manage yourself both mentally and physically,” he said of his achievements.
