Meanwhile, Wawa opened its first Ohio store and gas station in April in Liberty Township, writes Christian LeDuc for the Cincinnati Business Courier.
It’s an aggressive expansion campaign for Wawa, close to the hometown giant United Dairy Farmers.
For the past 85 years, the Lindner family-owned UDF, with 200 locations in the Tri-State, has become a destination for ice cream, malts, and milkshakes for generations of Cincinnatians and was the only convenience store in town with a devoted following.

Wawa is aiming for at least eight locations in Greater Cincinnati by the end of 2025.
Wawa President Brian Schaller said the company is planting its flag in Greater Cincinnati.
“The corner of Main and Main is a key part of our strategy,” Schaller said. “We want corners, and we will pay up for the best corners.”
In the next decade, Wawa is looking at 50 stores in Ohio, investing more than $375 million.
Wawa’s direct Pennsylvania competitor, Sheetz, has also started expanding in Ohio, with 50 stores planned in the Columbus market and 20 in Dayton.
Its first Cincinnatii-area location opened in Frankin in August 2024.
