The Tush Push is Here to Stay As NFL Falls Two Votes Short of Proposed Ban

A vote took place among the NFL owners regarding a proposal to ban the tush push. 22 of the league's 32 owners voted in favor of the ban, meaning it fell short of the required minimum.

Over the past few seasons, there has been a lot of talk about the tush push and why it should be banned from the NFL.

A recent vote among all 32 NFL team owners confirms that the play will instead survive, writes Conor Orr for Sports Illustrated.

Months ago, the Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to the league office to have the tush push banned.

The play has been a key component of the Philadelphia Eagles playbook during short-yard situations. Therefore, much of the conversation surrounding the proposal has been traced directly to the Birds.

While a popular argument for its ban is its risk for injury, the play has led to exactly zero injuries.

In order for a proposal to get passed, 24 of the 32 NFL team owners have to vote in favor of said proposal.

However, in this case, 10 owners voters against it, meaning that the tush will continue to be a part of NFL team’s offensive schemes.

Read more about what the NFL owners’ vote to keep the tush push alive means to the league in Sports Illustrated.
