Lia Valencia Key, a motivational speaker from West Chester, hopes the jewelry she designs will make you feel as good as you look, writes Wakisha Bailey for CBS News Philadelphia.
Key, who only wears yellow as her happiest color, creates her “Valencia Key” line at her West Chester jewelry design studio.
“It’s my prayer that you are reminded that you have the keys inside of you to consistently unlock your bravery,” she said.
Key spent most of her life with her mother and siblings in homeless shelters. Despite this, her mother ensured she knew her worth.
“In the midst of that my mother looks down at us and says, ‘Your predicament does not determine your destiny,’” she recalled.
That wisdom led Key to start making jewelry with meaning. Her brand is now on Oprah’s “Favorite Things” list and QVC. Her collection was also highlighted by popular podcasters.
But her biggest break came when Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, was spotted wearing her “JOY” bracelet.
“I had been sitting on inventory for a year and in four hours that inventory sold out,” she said.
