The rare Meconopsis, commonly known as the blue poppy, has returned to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square – but only for a short time, writes Cherise Lynch for NBC10 Philadelphia.

From now through March, the popular garden will be showcasing one of its most anticipated botanical displays in the historic main conservatory.

These elusive sky-blue blooms that are native to the slopes of the Himalayas are not usually able to be cultivated outside of their cool and misty natural habitat. However, Longwood Gardens skilled horticulturists have been employing timed growing techniques to carefully help the flowers into bloom each year.

There are only a few days left for those who don’t want to miss this stunning and unique display.

In addition to the gorgeous blue poppies, the conservatories at Longwood showcase a variety of other vibrant colored plants. With the spring season slowly unfolding, visitors will also be able to witness the outdoor gardens gradually transforming into a beautiful, colorful landscape.
