These Morton Students Are Spreading Eagles Love With Buttons

Students participating in the Delaware County Intermediate Unit's Options program have been making and selling Philadelphia Eagles buttons this week.

Some local students are generating Philadelphia Eagles buttons with a unique entrepreneurial project at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Morton, writes Justin Udo for KYW Newsradio.

Students in the DCIU Options program have created a Super Bowl collectible.

“We’re making buttons for the Eagles fans for the Super Bowl coming up,” said DCIU student Chris Galloway.

The Options program teaches students with developmental disabilities skills that can help them be more independent after high school.

“Typically they have other work tasks, but since this momentum of the Eagles, we decided to incorporate a special project, so they’re making Eagles buttons that they are selling to the staff here at the DCIU,” said Lisa Mitchell, program supervisor.

Galloway really enjoys putting the buttons together.

“It’s a little tricky but I can handle it. There’s nothing I can’t handle. That’s what I tell my own father,” he said.

The students are also asked to manage the inventory and track orders.

“There is also an element of financial literacy because they’re handling the transactions,” Mitchell said.

The group has more than 200 orders and are taking more this week. Funds raised from button sales go back into the Options program.
