New Substation for Paoli Fire Company Opens at Malvern Senior Living Facility

Paoli Fire Company's new substation will greatly reduce EMS response time to Echo Lake Senior Living Community residents.

Paoli Fire Company has opened a new substation at Echo Lake Senior Living Community in Malvern, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

The new substation opened on Feb. 3 at Echo Lake, a retirement community that currently houses 239 residents. The goal of the substation is to reduce EMS response times for Echo Lake residents and the surrounding community.

The need for a substation arose after roadway construction was slated to reduce Morehall Road from four lanes to two. Officials from Paoli Fire Co. estimated that with the construction, traffic delays would make EMS response times up to ten minutes longer.

The new substation at Echo Lake will be a temporary fix until construction on Morehall Road is finished.

The new substation will be staffed by a paramedic on weekdays from 7 AM to 7 PM. The paramedic on duty will use an SUV complete with medical equipment to begin treating patients before ambulance transportation arrives, if needed.

The establishment of the substation has already provided comfort for the Echo Lake community, including resident John Paylor, who said, “It took them a long time to get here and it saves the fire company a trip a day. It’s also a benefit for the neighboring communities as well.”
