Joann Fabrics to Close Chester County Stores Amid Bankruptcy

The craft store chain will close over thirty stores across Pennsylvania, including locations in Downingtown, Wayne, and Pottstown.

Joann Fabrics has plans to close 500 store locations across the United States, including three in Chester County, writes Kara Seymour for Patch.

The store closures come after the craft store chain filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in March of 2024. As a result, the company has plans to close 500 of its 800 total stores to reduce the national store footprint.

The closures include dozens of store locations in Pennsylvania, such as East Lancaster Ave. in Downingtown, West Schuylkill Rd. in Pottstown, and East Swedesford Rd. in Wayne

Joann Fabrics saw an increase in sales during the initial years of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many people spent money on indoor activities, including sewing and crafting. Inflation following the onset of the pandemic has resulted in a decrease of these optional expenses.

“It was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers, and all the communities we serve,” said a Joann Fabrics spokesperson.
