Federal Funding Pause Luckily Had Minimal Impact on Chester County

While President Trump’s funding freeze has been a hot topic across the nation, Chester County has seen minimal impact.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro recently informed the state that President Donald Trump’s administration has released billions of dollars in federal aid, writes Marc Levy for The Daily Local News.

The Democratic Governor previously accused the federal funding pause of being “illegal” and “unconstitutional.” In a recent conference, Shapiro stated that $2 billion, which had been frozen or subjected to an unspecified review, was once again available for state agencies.

While other counties in Pennsylvania may have seen the effect of this pause, it appears that Chester County was hardly impacted.

“Chester County government receives $68 million in federal funds, with much of that spent on health and human services,” said Rebecca Brain, county Communications Director. “We have not had any notification of restricted funds but are continually monitoring the situation to determine what impacts we could be facing.

When the federal funding was originally paused in January, the Chester County Commissioners promised to keep local programs running as much as possible. The county planned to work with the four surrounding counties to craft a strong response and system to document federal funding.

Homelessness programs, affordable housing, and workforce development initiatives could have been at risk under the funding freeze, as well as infrastructure and trails.
