After Stepping Down as Region’s Top Federal Prosecutor, Henderson High Grad Looking for Other Opportunities to Remain in Politics
After stepping down as U.S. Attorney on Friday, West Chester resident and Henderson High School graduate William M. McSwain is considering his options for remaining in politics, writes Jeremy Roebuck for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I hope that there will be opportunities for me in the future to continue in public service,” he said. “I don’t think you’ve heard the last of me.”
Other Republicans have been eager to draft him for various positions, including as a possible candidate for Congress or the governor’s office. His name has also been floated as a possible successor to retiring U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey.
Toomey also expressed his support for McSwain after he announced his impending resignation, calling him an “indispensable” and “dedicated” public servant.
After a few years as an assistant U.S. attorney, McSwain was working in private practice before being selected by Trump for the top prosecutor’s job. And despite being a political neophyte, he capitalized on the platform his post provided to establish a public persona. This provided him with a launching pad for his political ambitions.
