Chester County officials preserved more than 1200 acres of land by the end of 2024, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.
There are two county initiatives, Open Lands and Agricultural Preservation, that work to protect open space and farmers who could potentially lose their open land.
Crebilly Farm in Westtown Township, Embreeville swath in West Bradford Township, and Kestrel Hill Preserve were all notable preservations in 2024.
With the massive increase in property development throughout Chester County, it’s important to many people to keep the same small-town, rural feel.
“As the fastest growing county in Pennsylvania, it is crucial to balance land preservation with land development, ensuring the growth takes place in and around our urban areas, so that we can continue to connect parcels of protected open space,” said Chester County Commissioner Josh Maxwell.
In total, protected land makes up 31 percent of Chester County, with 65,000 acres preserved since the beginning of the program.
