Downingtown West graduate Will Howard took a long road but fulfilled his dream of playing in the Big Ten by joining Ohio State last year, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The quarterback was offered early enrollment at University of Georgia while at Downingtown, but instead stayed for his final year of high school football. This helped lead the Whippets to a District 1 crown in 2019 – their first in 13 years.
He joined Kansas State with the option to enter the transfer portal after Adrian Martinez became the starter. Instead, Howard remained as backup and, after Martinez was injured, led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship in 2022.
After four years at Kansas State, and following advice from coaches and scouts, Howard chose not to enter the NFL draft but enter the portal for his final year of eligibility. He received offers from several schools and decided on Ohio State.
He recently helped the team win over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He was named the Offensive MVP.
“I’m really proud of him,” said former Downingtown West coach Mike Milano.
