Two dogs have been successfully rescued from an Easttown Township pond after falling through the ice, writes John Paul for 6abc.
The dogs fell through the ice on the pond on Jan. 10. Easttown resident Gene Gold first saw one of the dogs, a Labrador, stuck in the water and called 911.
Easttown Township Police Officers C.J. Birdsall and Kevin Oreskovich responded and were able to save the dogs using a ladder and a pole saw provided by neighbors close by.
Easttown Township Police have warned residents of the hazards of icy waters, specifically when it comes to their pets’ time outdoors. Sargent Roy Laru advises pet owners to stay mindful of their pet’s location to prevent any further accidents.
Several incidents of dogs falling into icy waters have occurred across the Philadelphia region in the first weeks of 2025. With these risks in mind, local police also advise residents to never walk onto icy waters to rescue animals, and to instead call 911 for a police rescue.
