Ditch New Year’s Resolutions! Try the Winter Arc

With many New Year's resolutions often long gone by January 31st, the Winter Arc is a trimmed-down approach to the new year is a better alternative for many.

Let’s be honest with each other.

By January 31st, those New Year’s resolutions are long gone, right?

I mean, sure. Perhaps the more regimented among us last until Groundhog Day. Or maybe you’re like my husband, who sets goals instead of resolutions.

But for us mere mortals, the Associated Press says the end of January is the death knell for our better selves.

Thankfully, we have the internet.

The internet will save us all.

I think we’re all agreed on that.

Social media influencers are floating the Winter Arc as an alternative to New Year’s resolutions. The idea is to use the frigid temperatures as motivation to assess where you’d like to improve. Since you’re only, say, committing to eating kale for the colder months, you’ll be more austere and firm in that commitment.

Not for nothing, but if someone can dedicate their Winter Arc to making kale taste like chocolate, I’ll make my Winter Arc daily – no, hourly – kale consumption.

To start, get those changes on a schedule. Scheduling the new you makes it easier to show up. Next, be sure your changes are feasible. Don’t let schedule disruptions derail you, and make your workouts “cozy and convenient.”

Um, what?

Oh, gotcha. Hot yoga. Now we’re talking.

Your Winter Arc should start around October, but any cold-weather month is a good time to start.

Just, you know, don’t set punctuality as your Winter Arc task. You’re already three months late.

But procrastination? Yeah. That’s fine.
