Cold Plunge Philly, Havertown’s newest wellness center at 1213 Darby Road, invites you to experience the benefits of heat and cold-water immersion.
“The hardest part is that first 45 seconds. After that it’s relaxing,” said owner Alex Rosengarten, a Haverford High School graduate. “As soon as you hop out, you feel instantly better.”
It’s the first business of its kind in Delaware County and one of only a few in the region, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.
Rosengarten became interested in ice immersion after he experienced arm strength and pain from repetitive weightlifting.
He was slow to heal until he learned how cold water can reduce inflammation. He started using an upright barrel to do a full plunge. Over time, his arm healed and his mental health improved.
Cold water immersion is a tradition popular in high-latitude climates found in Russia and Finland.
“The concept is to heal the body in a natural way, or as close to natural as possible,” Rosengarten said.
The Havertown center has a sauna that can seat six to eight people at a time and three ice baths.
