Chester County Gen Zer Built Successful Landscaping Business at Age 12

Chester County Gen Zer Chase Gallagher started his successful landscaping business, CMG Landscaping, when he was just 12 in summer 2013.

Chester County Gen Zer Chase Gallagher started his successful landscaping business when he was just 12, writes Orianna Rosa Royle for Fortune.

He started by mowing his neighbors’ lawns for $35 in the summer of 2013 with two customers. However the following year – thanks to an aggressive leafleting campaign – that number grew to 10.

Over a decade later, his landscaping business, CMG Landscaping, now has ten employees and does “everything from stormwater management and drainage work to pavers and lighting,” he said.

Last year, his company generated over $1.5 million in revenue. At the same time, many of his peers were still working on their bachelor’s degrees – the route his parents wished he had taken instead.

Gallagher has credited the rise of mobile phones as a key factor in his success.

“Why is [launching a business] easier now than ever before? Because 20 years ago we didn’t have this here,” he said. “This device has made me millions of dollars because it’s helped me market my business; it’s helped me connect with crazy types of people. I can go online today and pay 400 bucks and have an LLC.”
