State Lawmaker Asks PennDOT to Move Up Proposed Construction of Route 202 Roundabout

State Senator Steve Santarsiero asked PennDOT to move up construction of a roundabout at the busy intersection of Routes 202 and York Road.

State Senator Steve Santarsiero has asked the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to find ways to move up the proposed construction of a roundabout at the busy intersection of Routes 202 and York Road, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch

Construction of the roundabout is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

“All of us are in agreement – sooner than later,” said Santarsiero. “I’d like to see this expedited in any way we can. It’s a safety issue. Every time I come through here I say a prayer when I’m turning. And at rush hour it’s 10 times worse.”

According to PennDOT officials, the construction timeline will depend on how quickly it can secure rights of way for the roundabout from property owners.

The first step in the process will start later this year and continue into 2025 and involve completing environmental and geotechnical studies.

“Once that happens we can start talking to local property owners about impacts to their properties but we’re not allowed to do that until we get our environmental clearance,” said a PennDOT District 6 representative.

If all property owners agree, the process can move faster and the construction accelerated.
