About the Cambria Terrace Transformation

Cambria Homes epitomizes HFHCC’s commitment to creating lasting change through collaboration and innovation. 2001 marked the beginning of the Cambria Homes project, which entails revitalizing a once-dilapidated area into a vibrant community of homes. In total, there are 86 mixed-income homes in Coatesville (Cambria Terrace) and South Coatesville (Cambria Heights) that comprise the development. Originally consisting of public housing that had fallen into disrepair, the neighborhood now stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives.

“If you look at what the Oak Street Projects were and what Cambria is now, it has completely changed the landscape of that area and engaged the community in the affordable housing process,” said Kane, Director of Development and Marketing at Habitat for Humanity of Chester County.

The impact of the neighborhood extends far beyond providing shelter; it is about building generational wealth and changing the trajectory of lives for the families who call it home.

The project’s success is attributed to strategic partnerships with local government, corporations, churches, and foundations that have generously supported the effort. The County of Chester, in particular, was instrumental in helping Habitat to secure the property and providing further funding for the infrastructure improvements. These partnerships have enabled Habitat for Humanity to utilize affordable materials and engage volunteers through team builds, ensuring that the homes remain affordable and energy-efficient.

HFHCC looks forward to future endeavors in Caln Township, where two lots have been purchased on Foundry Street.
