Habitat for Humanity of Chester County will host its Annual Build A House… Build a Dream event, set to take place on Saturday, Mar. 2, at Church Farm School from 8:30-12:30 PM. The competition invites students from the local community to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship by constructing their own three-dimensional model dream homes.

Participants, whether working individually or in teams, bring their meticulously crafted models to the contest venue for evaluation by a panel of esteemed judges comprising professional architects, engineers, builders, etc. Over the years, this event has witnessed remarkable displays of ingenuity, with houses crafted from a diverse range of materials including recycled materials, tree trunks, pencils, and even pasta.

In an exciting development for this year’s event, Habitat for Humanity of Chester County will collaborate with Saint-Gobain/CertainTeed to introduce a sustainability award. This prestigious accolade will recognize the home that best exemplifies the use of sustainable materials in innovative ways, showcasing textures, colors, and thoughtful design. Judges will also be looking to see if thought was given to the potential for project material recovery and reuse post-competition.

“I look forward to judging the Build a House event each year,” said Jo Forsythe of Saint-Gobain. “It’s an amazing opportunity to see the creativity and excitement of our local students. Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed are proud to work with Habitat in many ways, but I feel like the luckiest employee getting to be involved in this annual event. It’s so well organized, and everyone has such a great day. These students should be so proud of their efforts. They are a great representation of Chester County, their schools, and their families.”

The Build a House event serves as more than just a competition; it provides a unique platform for local youth organizations and family-friendly businesses to engage with the community. With over 200 families from Chester County and surrounding areas expected to attend, this event offers an excellent opportunity for organizations to promote their youth offerings.

Habitat for Humanity of Chester County extends its heartfelt gratitude to Fox & Roach Trident Charities for their unwavering support as the Title Sponsor for this year’s event and for the past 20 years. Their continued commitment has played a pivotal role in making this event possible and has greatly contributed to Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing affordable housing solutions to families in need.

Interested participants and organizations are encouraged to secure their spot by Feb. 24th to ensure participation. Spaces are limited and filling up rapidly.
