Gazzos Steaks, which started as a food truck in Upper Pottsgrove two years ago, is making its mark now with a takeout window at 2528 Haverford Road in Ardmore Park, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Opening this fall, there will be about 10 parking spaces out front and a patio with outside seating.
Gazzos started humbly enough after South Philadelphia natives Joe Lewis and Mike Lamson found themselves in Pottstown with limited cheesesteak options.
They bought a rundown food truck and tried their own hand at cheese steaking.
“We figured, we’ll fix it up, throw it up on this hill on Route 100 [in Upper Pottsgrove], and see what it does” Lewis said.
Named after Rocky Balboa’s loan shark, Tony Gazzo, Gazzos opened in fall 2022 selling about 15 cheesesteaks a day.
Business exploded to 300 cheesesteaks and more after some social media food influencers wrote about them.
They bought a second food truck in Phoenixville, then a corner store in Pottstown.
Gazzos won this year’s Bite for the Fight competition, part of the Fight on Makenna Foundation’s festival at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.
