Despite recent ownership changes, the DK Diner in West Chester isn’t going anywhere. New owners Ragab Mekawy and Abdul Elkhouly have preserved the diner’s nostalgic charm and continue to run practically business as usual, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.

Mekawy and Elkhouly, who also own Rams Diner, The Blob Diner in Downingtown, and The Double D Diner in Coatesville, are keeping the menu, staff, prices, and more the same. Only some upgrades are needed to add to its traditional diner front, such as backroom renovations and a retro 50s-style exterior makeover set for next year.

“It’s a welcoming, comfortable environment,” said Kathy, who has been a server for 14 years. “It’s still the best deal in town and the new owners are really listening to the customers and staff.”

Longtime customers and employees call the diner a second home, where relationships develop over time and they get to enjoy homemade meals like sausage gravy and biscuits or macaroni and cheese.

Regulars like West Chester resident Ralph Bane, who comes in around the same time daily, and Dolores Higgins, who loves to laugh, make it an inviting atmosphere.

“I love my regulars just like family,” said server Lu Lu Calvario. “Customers are like a family. I love to see people happy.”
