Montgomery County and the surrounding suburbs are seeing a surge in registered Democrats as the population increases, reports Katie Bernard and Assem Shukla for The Philadelphia Inquirer. This surge could benefit Kamala Harris in November.
Recent trends show that the more rural areas of Montco, Chester, and Bucks County are seeing a rise in population. What were once farm towns with many single-voter homes are making room for residential development. Many of the homes are being filled by young families coming from Philadelphia – most of them Democrats.
With Pennsylvania as one of the major political battlegrounds in the national election, the migration from the city could serve to benefit Democratic nominee Harris. These small towns that have historically voted Republican are turning blue.
The number of registered Democrats in Montco compared to Republicans is only getting bigger. In neighboring counties, Bucks and Chester, where Republicans outnumber Democrats, the gap is shrinking dramatically.
