Sadsburyville, a tiny village in Chester County, has finally started growing, and is doing so mostly on its own terms, writes Kim Eckman Douglas for the Main Line Today.
The village staple, the Sadsburyville Hotel, dates back to 1799. It was supposed to be expanded in the 19th century with the arrival of rail service, but when the Harrisburg Line instead swung south, progress in Sadsburyville stalled.
The hotel was acquired in 1973 by Harry Lymberis, who started selling hot dogs from out of the bar of a cocktail lounge.
“It was quiet all week, but it was booming on Friday nights,” said his son, John Lymberis.
In the half-a-century since, the owners have added three dining rooms and a lounge to the original bar and turned the building into a focal point of a burgeoning burg.
John Lymberis, who graduated from Temple University with a degree in architecture, helped install the new public sewer system as the first president of the Sadsbury Sewer Corporation.
Soon after, Quarry Ridge, a development of 156 single-family homes, was built. This was followed by several similar developments, including Sadsbury Park, a walkable village completed in 2023.
