Peter Zale, Associate Director of Conservation Horticulture and Plant Breeding at Longwood Gardens, has been honored with the prestigious Philip E. Keenan Award by the American Orchid Society.

The Philip E. Keenan Award, named after a luminary in the field and a founding member of the North American Native Orchid Society, celebrates individuals who show exceptional dedication and accomplishment in conserving orchids.

At Longwood Gardens, Chester County’s top tourist destination drawing over 1.5 million visitors annually, Zale spearheads an orchid research program that’s at the forefront of conservation horticulture.

Through initiatives like seed banking, seed germination techniques, and the restoration of orchid populations, he has made significant strides in the conservation of these botanical wonders.
