Chester County Among Fastest-Growing Counties Based on Population in Pennsylvania
Chester County is one of the fastest-growing counties, population-wise, in Pennsylvania, based on the latest U.S. Census Bureau figures, writes Michael P. Rellahan for The Daily Local News.
The recently released numbers show that the state experienced a slight overall population decline of around 41,000 people between 2020 and 2023.
However, Chester County recorded a population growth of 2.9 percent in that same period. While this is not the largest percentage of population growth in the state, it is the largest numeric increase, with an additional 15,369 people.
Only nine municipalities in Chester County had a decrease in population numbers. Tredyffrin, which is the county’s most populated municipality, leads the group with 139 fewer residents.
Other municipalities that showed a decline include London Britain, East Goshen, Avondale, Valley, Atglen, Thornbury, North Coventry, and Pennsbury, which only lost two residents.
Among the municipalities that showed growth in the same period, the largest increase was recorded in West Whiteland and Upper Uwchlan, each with 1.006 new residents.
West Chester is next with 988 new residents, followed by Kennett Square, with 892.
