A home in Paoli got a stunning outdoor transformation after its owners decided they wanted to add a party barn, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.

They turned to Conshohocken-based Terren Landscapes to come up with a design that would improve the flow between various zones on the property and find the best use for undeveloped areas.

While most of the land was well maintained, a good portion was overrun with invasive multiflora rose. This unruly weed is prevalent in our local woodlands.

Carolyn Palmer, Terren’s senior landscape designer, decided to clear the undergrowth and turn it into a shade-tolerant, no-mow lawn.

“This small change opened up the longer views of the property and made it feel so much larger without compromising the integrity of the woodland,” she said.

The party barn, which also serves as a guest house, was built into the hillside. It connects to the main hose through boulders, steps, and walkways that are bordered with plants and flowers.

“Boulder walls serve a structural purpose and also allowed us to tie into the existing planting beds, creating a soft perennial garden which complements the existing palette,” said Palmer.
